Smashwords Interview

What's the story behind your latest book?
Dark Priest has been building inside me for over 25 years. The characters were first conceived on a family holiday with my parents and brother, Dex. We had travelled to Uganda to see the gorillas, and then on to Zanzibar for the history and beach, and as we did so Dex and I imagined a group of powerful adventurers doing the same trip in a fantasy world. We tried to picture how they would handle all the challenges the journey would entail - from dinosaurs in the Rift Valley to hiring a boat from Orcs to get to mysterious islands.

As I grew up, attended university, started work, got married, and had children, I felt so blessed that I wanted to share some thoughts about life, love and God. I decided the best way to do that was through a book so I captured Chandor's story on paper. The result was Dark Priest - hopefully a fun, uplifting and thought provoking fantasy adventure!
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I love the freedom of being able to make my book exactly the way I want it, when I want it.

With indie publishing, I get to choose my editor (thanks Rosanne Catalano), my cover designer (thanks Elene Carpenter / DesignDynamics), draw my own maps (Campaign Cartogapher 3), and run my own marketing. Also, time to market is significantly reduced since all the middlemen are eliminated.

Most importantly, since I'm more interested in sharing ideas than making a profit, its great to be able to provide massive discounts which I wouldn't be able to do with a traditional publisher (email me at DaleViceAuthor@gmail.com for a discount coupon :)
