Dan Trelfer

Biography

In 2002 I had a book published called 'Vodka with Chocolate Chasers'. It was pretty well reviewed considering I was an unknown writer and the publisher was very small. The Daily Express was particularly impressed, saying it 'defied pigeon-holing', a phrase that chimes coincidentally with the cover of my second novel, 'The Flathunter'. My third novel, entitled 'I Am Suicide Man', will be released in the summer of 2013.

When my first book was published I was asked to go on Good Food Live to be interviewed by the divine Jeni Barnett. Unfortunately, no property shows invited me to appear on screen to talk about 'The Flathunter'. True, 'The Flathunter' doesn't have much to do with Grand Designs or Property Ladders, but then 'Vodka with Chocolate Chasers' didn't have much to do with good food, either. In fact, the terribleness of the food on the Trans-Siberian railway, on which the book was set, was a major theme.

On the show, live one Wednesday afternoon, Jeni showed me a brick of dried noodles on a plate and asked if it was the kind of thing I ate when I travelled across Siberia. 'Yes,' I said. And thousands of people at home dutifully boiled the kettle so they could eat Super Noodles for lunch, relieved they didn't have to whip up a raspberry coulis or stuff a marrow for once.

The Flatshare Interview can deliver crushing blows to anyone's self-esteem because rejection has nothing to do with experience or qualifications, and everything to do with character, or looks... or smell.
