Darrell Gibbs

Darrell William Gibbs - I was born to Donald William Gibbs and Lorraine Dorothy Walling, two loving and wonderful parents on the 23 October 1956 in Korbecke, West Germany.
My father was in the Canadian Army with the Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR's) and was stationed in Soest when I came into this world.
As a child I grew up on army bases during the sixties and early seventies with my brothers Derrick & Randy and sisters Cheryl & Wendy. Our father retired from the military in 1972 and settled in Peterborough, Ontario.
I went to school at Crestwood High School from 1972-74 until I joined the Canadian Armed Forces in July 1974 following in my Dad's footsteps.
During my career I was posted to various Canadian Forces Bases in Canada (Borden, Trenton, Portage La Prairie, Shilo, Esquimalt, Kingston and Petawawa). I was also posted to Lahr, Germany for a five year period and had two overseas tours. First tour was to the Golan Heights with the United Nations in 1991 and the second with Canadian Navy onboard HMCS Regina in the Arabian Gulf in 1997.
I progressed in the ranks from Private to Master Warrant Officer. After a successful 29 year career as a chef and kitchen manager I retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in April 2003 as the Brigade Chief Cook in CFB Petawawa.
After retiring I went back to college and in 2005 I received a diploma for Computer Support Technician earning the 'Presidents Honour Award' at Sir Sanford Fleming College in Peterborough, Ontario.
Once I graduated I began working for a short time at NUCOMM in Cobourg as a Telephone Support Representative. I decided for personal reasons to go back to my primary trade in cooking working for the Public Service and retired in Jan 2015.
I am the loving father of three children and five grandchildren. I have many hobbies such as researching genealogy, playing guitar, woodworking, renovating, reading, collecting hockey memorabilia, reading and writing. I will be forever a devoted Toronto Maple Leafs fan and I am hoping that someday soon the team will hoist the Stanley Cup once again.
Presently, I am retired and keep busy around the homestead with my wonderful and beautiful woman Linda Bogert.
I co-authored the book ‘TORMENTED BY GHOSTS – TRUE LIFE EXPERIENCES’ with Linda. A book about her paranormal experiences over a 30 year period. The book is available on Amazon.ca in paperback and e-book as well as other online retailers.
After completing the book I began researching and writing a book called WESSEX REIGN. It is a fictional historical book with some paranormal themes and twists. WESSEX REIGN – A FICTIONAL ACCOUNT OF AN ANGLO-SAXON KING’S CHRONICLE has a planned book release in late 2018 or early 2019. WESSEX REIGN will be a 3-part series called the 'UNITED ENGLALAND SERIES'.
Before the book is released, it was more important for me to work on the family tree. Knowing who we are and where we came from is something very close to my heart.
