James Eddy

Publisher info

James Eddy was born in Braintree, Essex in April 1980. After moving first to Colchester, Essex, the family settled in South Norfolk and James was able to enjoy the wide open spaces and quiet of the area which fed his imagination. Following an undistinguished University career, he began writing scripts for films and acting out the cliche of the drunken writer. He diversified by moving into prose and eventually focussed enough to write a collection of Short Stories called 'Diamonds' along with several other short stories a novel and novella. He released 'Bewilder', the first story from 'Diamonds' in April 2012.

Smashwords Interview

Why are you releasing 'Diamonds' as a single book when all the stories are already available individually?
That's a good question although strictly speaking there is one story/poem - 'Diane' - that hasn't been previously released, which is included in the collection. The reason for releasing 'Diamonds' in this way is really just because I always intended to. Part of my thinking when I started to release e-books was to treat these things in a similar way to the way a band or singer-songwriter would release their music. They don't tend to release an album first and if they're just starting out they might release a whole series of singles before the album came out. In that way, it allows an audience to be gradually exposed to an artist and they can then choose to delve further into that artist'swork if they want to. I think that the release of 'Diamonds' as a complete collection only increases that choice. A person might read 'Heart over Head over Heels' or 'The Ghosts Are Out Tonight' and they might be interested enough to invest the time and money in the whole of 'Diamonds' or one of the other stories or whatever they want really.
What is your writing process?
I wake up and I write. It's pretty simple. Sometimes it's a bit more complicated than that though. Sometimes I wake up, I think and then I write, which is usually when I write the stuff that might be worth keeping.

Ralph de Stafford, the first earl of Stafford, was one of the most powerful men in fourteenth century England. He was a veteran of the Hundred Years War, a respected military commander and an advisor to two Kings. What is less well known is that his early life had more than its fair share of troublemaking, including an audacious escape from the Tower of London that briefly made him into an outlaw.
