David Shannon
Biography
Raised on a farm in Montana and graduating from Cornell University, David joined the Peace Corps as an Agricultural Advisor in Iran - prior to the revolution. During that time, he did the overland trip through Afghanistan, Pakistan and India to Nepal and the Hippie Haven of the 70’s – Kathmandu. He fell in love with the place and swore to return.
Finishing the Peace Corps in April 1976, he returned graduate school in International Administration. This was followed by a position with Lutheran World Relief digging wells in the Sahel of Niger, West Africa.
This was followed by a position with Foster Parents Plan (now ChildReach) as Director in Jacmel, Haiti. After two years in Jacmel, he was offered his dream assignment - Country Director in Nepal, and he flew off to Kathmandu in May 1981. There followed the most fabulous two and a half years of his life.
While there, he met Terri whom he eventually followed down to New Zealand and married in June, 1984. He currently resides in New Zealand and has two daughters at university. He worked for Watson Wyatt as a remuneration consultant for 25 years, and he and Terri are now preparing to travel the world again.
