David Ian Flynn

Hello. I am David Flynn, author of ‘Light of the Lost’. I trained as a Physicist and have a Masters in Engineering. I have taught in universities and schools in various countries and from time-to-time consult in the Social Innovation space.

I set out to write an adventure story for children that was grounded in real world science. It involves a bit of astronomy and celestial navigation, paleo-climatology (how the Earth’s climate has changed in the past), prehistoric anthropology (especially how early humans have dispersed throughout the world), geology and biology. There are discoveries and mysteries as well as challenging journeys.

The original impetus came whilst looking for books that my book voracious daughters or my reluctant-to-read son might like. I was unimpressed with so much of the ‘fake’science that was involved in many of the novels and put off by the long drawn out plots of others.

Light of the Lost is a book that can be read by any teenager or Young Adult, or read out aloud to a younger audience. It has at its heart a core message that knowing about our world and what is happening to the environment is vital … and that achieving anything worthwhile requires determination and perseverance.
