Mark Orava

Biography

Born and raised smack in the center of the midwest despite numerous attempts to escape. Learned to labor with my hands becoming a jack of all trades, master of none. Chose mechanical engineering as the "lesser of all evils" in hopes to labor just a bit less.

Trouble was once probably my most proficient of activities. It's no small miracle that I'm alive at all and even a bigger miracle that God would want to save me at all. But He did. So I went back to school, choosing Biblical Studies, Theology, Pastoral ministries and now my more proficient activities, I think, are writing stories of HIS activities.

Today, I'm still laboring in the lessor of all evils and still living in the midwest with my wonderful wife, numerous cats and my beautiful daughter is nearby. One day I hope to be a full time philanthropist but perhaps I have entitlement issues.

Regardless of my aspirations and preferences, I desire God's best, first and foremost so let thy kingdom come, thy will be done.

Smashwords Interview

When did you first start writing?
In Bible College. When I enrolled into college, I actually had a writing phobia but one particular professor, whom I had numerous classes with, would assign multiple papers each semester for each class. It didn't take long before the fear was gone and a pleasure remained. Writing, I discovered, became a necessary expressive outlet for me while satisfying the desire to create....sort of ex nihilo. For God is a creator and we are made in His image.
What are you working on next?
Prayerfully, I have felt lead/encouraged to continue writing notes or journal entries each year to publish in a collection at the end of each season. These entries will likely be whatever the Lord encourages me to write about and many times I don't even know what I'm to be writing about when I'm directed to do so. Therefore, the subject matter is a mystery. However, I have begun a fiction work based loosely on the non-fiction of my experiences but I can't quit my day job yet so it could be a long time before that sees the light of day, if ever.
