Denise Kawaii was born in Portland, Oregon and currently resides there with her husband. Raised by a single mother and an often-absent father, Denise grew up in a mixture of middle class and poverty which led to a wide range of experiences with work, family values, addiction, and recovery.
Denise began writing fiction at an early age with characters based on people she knew or circumstances she had experienced. Her dramatic short stories, The Beginning of the End and The Rochester Letter, were both published online through Associated Content in 2009 and a segment of her novelette A Giraffe in the Room was accepted for publication in Periscope Magazine in 2011.
In addition to her love of writing, Denise discovered paintball in 2007 and has become widely known as an advocate and promoter of the sport. In 2010 she merged her passions for paintball and writing by becoming a celebrated sports contributor for Salinas’ Paintball Monthly Press and Examiner.com.
