David Reiss

While growing up, David was that weird kid with his nose in a book and his head in the clouds. He was the table-top role-playing game geek, the comic-book nerd, the storyteller and dreamer.

Fortunately, he hasn’t changed much.

David Reiss is a software engineer by trade and long-time sci-fi and fantasy devotee by passion, and he resides in Silicon Valley with his partner of twenty-six years. Also, a disturbingly spoiled cat named Freya.

David’s primary hobby is exploring the crafts and skills from works of fiction. He’s built replica lightsabers and forged medieval armor, he’s programmed autonomous drones and brewed his own mead. He’s started fires by rubbing two sticks together, and he’s started fires with lasers. He’s equally bad at numerous martial arts, archery, swordfighting, paintball and lasertag.

Basically...still a geek.

Smashwords Interview

When did you first start writing?
Wow, I'm honestly not certain. I started very young; I remember watching children's television shows and hand-writing stories set in those universes. In modern parlance, I suppose that those works would be considered 'fanfic', but at the time it was just creative exploration. I wrote original stories as well, but most of my efforts were spend re-imagining the worlds and characters that I was exposed to on television.

Some of the shows that I remember writing about haven't been aired since I was eight or nine years old.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Mostly, my cat Freya. She's very vocal about breakfast time.

(Also, more generally...I find ways to keep entertained. Publishing my first novel is exciting, there's always other writing projects to dive into, and my list of hobbies keeps growing. And growing. And growing...)
