Chandler Brett

Biography

After years of reading, studying, and teaching other authors' novels, Chandler Brett finally decided in 2013 to pick up a pen and write his own. Influenced by the American literary tradition represented by Mark Twain, Jack London, and John Steinbeck as well as the fantastical tales of Tad Williams, Orson Scott Card, and Gene Wolfe, Brett mines the mysteries of the natural world to fashion character-driven adventures. A chandler is a candlemaker, and Brett hopes in his stories a light will shine on some new experience for you, fostering a reverence for life. Smashwords Interview

What do you read for pleasure?
Although writers often should choose a genre and stay devoted to it for the sake of their readers, my reading tastes are much broader. I do love science fiction and fantasy, speculative fiction, but I read biographies, history, classics, mysteries, legal thrillers, graphic novels, multicultural novels, and news about science and technology.
Who are your favorite authors?
I have a long list of favorites, but those who read Wolf Code will definitely see the influence of Rudyard Kipling, Jack London, Richard Adams, and Tad Williams. Beyond those I would include Willa Cather, John Steinbeck, Joseph Conrad, C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, Graham Greene, N. Scott Momaday, Oscar Hijuelos, Anne McCaffrey, Orson Scott Card, Gene Wolfe, Margaret Weis, and John Grisham. So you can see that it is a mixed company, and there are many I'm leaving out!
