  • Graves on May 10, 2010

As a horror author I must say that Cawthorne's book Graves is the kind of short horror that I hope I can achieve. I recommend it 100%
  • Gruesomely Grimm Zombie Tales on Sep. 03, 2011

The first story in the collection "The Zombie King " blew my mind and put in me in the mood for some good old fashioned mashups-I read it eagerly and flipped to the next page ready for more. Unfortunately from there the stories became a little too modernized and a few of them felt forced. I recommend purchasing the book because it is definitely worth a read but I wish I could say all of the stories held the same natural flow as the first.
  • Invasion of Privacy and Other Short Stories on Sep. 13, 2013

Murder mystery stories are a dime a dozen and usually fall flat, especially when written in First Person, but the titular story “Invasion of Privacy” manages to create a sense of mystery and introduces a novel scenario. These being shorts I cannot go too far into detail without spoiling the meat of the stories but I will say that the concept behind “The Tourist Attraction” is the most unique of the stories presented and I enjoyed its concept the most. The three best stories are: “The Tourist Attraction”, “A Novel Murder”, and “Tag, you’re it”. I want to give a nod to the formatting and grammar, they are both great (which is rare).
  • Zero Point Energy on Oct. 03, 2013

Zero Point Energy is held up by a great Sci-Fi idea and has the unique addition of informative links making it well worth a read. The length is good for a Science Fiction work but could have been fleshed out a bit more and I would have liked to seen more chapter breaks. My biggest fear with the story is how it could translate to print and not lose its informative links, this is a hurdle that the author should try to overcome. The concept has the possibility of becoming a great Sci-Fi read but the relationship focus and some of the sexual wording caused me to break out of the story. This isn't a negative aspect to everyone. As long as the cost is a "You Set The Price" option I recommend paying the $.99 for a copy as it is worth a read instead of downloading it for free.
  • Phantasy on Oct. 20, 2013

The book starts with a disclaimer that it may be unsuitable for minors and may offend. I absolutely agree with this statement and I give the book 3 out of 5 stars based on the fact that it is generally well written and has a unique idea behind it but the detail way "sex" was referenced was beyond what was needed and to me (as someone who does not enjoy graphic sexual references) was too graphic to keep immersed. In addition the way that women were addressed kept me from enjoying the read overall. This would not be the case for everyone and the reason the book received 3 instead of 2 stars is because the language and attitude toward women are essential for the story to the author. The author is intentionally trying to show a broken train of thought but there are numerous mentions of rape and the idolization of women as objects for sex only that could cause issues for some people.
