Smashwords Interview

Korea x 2 features some of the classic signatures that your readers have come to expect in your books: Air Force, Korea, the military female leading the charge, sexual deviants, etc. What is it that attracts you to these themes and settings?
The Air Force is something I know: I flew on seven airframes; I stayed in the Air Force Reserve till I was fifty-two. The settings in Korea, and serving as an Air Force Pararescuemen—these are simply things I know very well. I choose them because my memories have no end, regarding the rescue missions I flew. I ran across some talented women in the military and feel women are not fairly represented in military thrillers.
You write short stories also. Which do you prefer?
I find writing short stories a joy, writing novels a challenge. If writing novels is like running a marathon, then writing short stories is more like running the 44o. I was an All Star Cross Country runner in high school but my event in Track was the 44o. The two processes, the novel and short stories, complement each other, creating a complete adventure. I cannot seem to write short stories while working on a novel, and never write a novel while I’m working on short stories. I’m really excited to start working on short stories, but I have to finish the third novel of my trilogy. I am at the stage now where you can say I am ‘hell-bent’ on finishing the series. I have a bone to pick!
