Dennis Kafalas

Dennis Kafalas is the author of AN OBVIOUS LIFE,; WHALE PIRATES, Debut Press (trade paperback 2003, e-book 2012); and INSPIRED LEARNERS, ACTIVE MINDS: A GUIDE FOR THE ENGLISH CLASSROOM, Rowman&Littlefield Educational Publishers (2009).

Kafalas' fiction captures the wonder, sadness, irony and joy of life. His characters are unlikely heroes who find courage and inspiration in the lives of others. His writing belief is that less is more -- his characters can better tell a story than he can.

Smashwords Interview

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
When I was in college I wrote a short story called, "A Big Boy's Summer." It was a story of a lonely woman who commits suicide and the effect her death has on two boys. Never published, but it was my first full story attempt.
What is your writing process?
I'm a stop-start writer in that I tend to work with longer story ideas and with more than one at a time. Right now, I have three novel ideas going at the same time, so it's slow going. I'm not one who can write every day. I try, but my day job takes up a lot of my productive time.
