Tinderbox Publishing Ltd

Publisher info

Tinderbox Publishing was set-up in 2010 and began publishing both print and e-books. Tinderbox is dedicated to independent publishing of diverse and unusual authors who write about life's vivid truths.

Tinderbox plans to publish in most genres, but currently is focussed upon travel, adventure, parent - teenage relationships, mild erotica, humour and short stories. Not all our books or authors are published on Smashwords, although all are available on Amazon. This will change as time progresses.

At Tinderbox, we do not bemoan the rise of e-books. We believe this will encourage more people to read - especially more young people. There will always be bookshops. Readers will always enjoy buying their favourite books as hard copies. We agree about smell and feel. But we believe the convenience of e-books, for the writer, the seller and the reader, will see them come to dominate sales figures. We can see the sense in that and will be happy to supply that growing market.

Remember, neither the escalator nor the elevator brought about the death of the staircase as many feared they would.

Smashwords Interview

Describe your desk
AN INTERVIEW WITH TINDERBOX AUTHOR MARK SWAIN

My desk is busy but I make some attempt at order. It depends on the day you look at it. Today is fairly junk-free.

On my desk at the moment is:
1. A road atlas of the UK
2. A Filofax open at the diary. I use this as a portable desk diary. I'm trying to use my i-Phone but it's a struggle
3. Mug of Japanese green tea (Chinese is not the same) with a coaster under (1960's Spanish flamenco dancer)
4. A notebook where I write down to do lists and ideas for stories etc
5. Glasses case with cleaning cloth (Ray Ban)
6. i-Pad which I use for reading e-books and managing other Twitter profiles
7. Bills etc - currently a statement for power generated from my solar panels
8. A paperback book - The Tokyo-Montana Express by Richard Brautigan.
9. i-Phone 5
10. A MacBook Pro with a Logitec ergonomic mouse (yes I still use one)
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up all over the world. Born in Singapore (father an aviation engineer in the RAF) then returned to UK (Kent). Moved to Hampshire, then Malaysia aged 6 (father now Army avionics engineer), then back to Singapore, then back to Hampshire age 11. Boarding school in Winchester, then to West Germany, then back to UK (Lichfield), then Hastings aged 16 (Sussex). I went to 10 different schools and caused a lot of trouble.

  • Lusting While Dusting on Nov. 13, 2013

Very much enjoyed this little story. It had an air of realism that made me feel the author had been there. Some very nice descriptive language and just the right balance of humour. Gave me a whole new outlook on household chores.
  • Lusting While Dusting on May 09, 2014

Lusting While Dusting I really enjoyed this story. What a lot of fun it was. I think all us guys have dreamed of having a job calling into people's houses where sexy housewives and single women in their apartments want to use us for hassle-free sex. This story is nicely paced and pushes all the right buttons.
  • Improper Improvisations 1 on May 09, 2014

Improper Improvisations A lovely collection of raunchy smut. I am especially fond of The Maiden & The Muckraker - perhaps influenced for the musical taste but there is just something about that maiden. The Emos needing impregnating were also a scream. Very much enjoyed these stories and looking forward to more by the same author.
  • Hurt-Proofing Ourselves on May 09, 2014

Hurt-proofing Ourselves This is an interesting book full of insights about how to prevent others from being able to harm us with words and actions. I think most of us can do with help in this area and this book is certainly a big help. I found that it also shows how many of us can learn to take life a little less seriously, which is no bad thing either. Thanks for providing this book free as a help to others. I look forward to reading more of your work.
  • Inappropriate Behaviour and Other Stories on Nov. 06, 2014

Loved this book. The stories have a sense of reality about them. I actually came to like a few of the characters. I presume the author has based them on people he knows. Also very humorous in parts. I good read that made me want more.
