What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Depending on how early the day starts, a sense of duty is the only thing that gets me out of bed. My husband enjoys my attention, despite my rather curmudgeonly attitude early in the morning, and my children count on me to send them out the door to school, so I drag myself up. However, once I'm well and truly awake, I head straight to my office to write. Writing, though I now view it as a job, is still a source of joy.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Because of family moves, I attended nine different schools, mostly in the western United States. Though I've always been a mildly introverted person, being the perpetual new kid turned me into someone painfully shy. Since I often felt alone, I turned to books, both reading and writing.
