I guess I’ve been inventing stories as far back as I can remember (mostly to keep me out of trouble), but began writing seriously after finishing an English studies BA as a mature student. My writing is influenced by everything from a love of reading all genres; films; music; raising my two daughters; hill walking; and much, much more. I tend to take all I know, throw it into a fantasy setting and see what comes out.

This is the story of Davran, a girl on the brink of womanhood, in a world where pretty girls are taken as sexual playthings by the ruler whose taste leans towards torture and murder. Having spent her entire life disguised as a boy to avoid this risk, Davran finds herself transported to a parallel world thought to be legend, only to find she may have to return and help stop evil ruling both worlds.

This is the charming story of Paige, a nine year old girl who is struggling to fit in because she happens to be a witch. While I do think the story could be longer, in particular an encounter that Paige has with a vegetarian dragon, I have to take into account that it is written for children, and is a perfect length and depth of prose for an introduction to fantasy for a young reader. Well worth a read for those with young children, or for adults that still have that child within.
