Kevyn Townley

Biography

Born in 1956 in Palmerston North, New Zealand, author Kevyn Townley brings years of foreign travel experience to the pages of "Easy Etiquette in China" - the first book in Townley's soon-to-be-released "Easy Etiquette" series of travel guides.

At the age of nineteen, Kevyn embarked on an overseas adventure that included visits to some of the world’s most culturally rich destinations: the UK, Europe, the west coast of the United States, Indonesia, China and Hong Kong, Mongolia, Niue Island (South Pacific), Groote Eylandt, Christmas Island, Sumbawa (part of the Indonesian Archipelago), and Malaysia.

Finally settling in Western Australia, Kevin began a fifteen-year stretch working in the hospitality [Hotel Management] and Remote Catering industry. During this time, a three year stint (2007 - 2010) managing a company in China and Mongolia prompted him to write not only "Easy Etiquette in China" but an entire series of etiquette-focused travel books specifically intended to help first-time travelers overcome the cultural challenges of foreign countries.

About life plans that once included becoming a millionaire by the age of 22, Kevyn laughingly admits he’s “currently several hundred thousand short of that target and running 34 years behind schedule.” Residing now in Perth, Kevyn, enjoys life - millionaire status not-withstanding - with wife Jay and their seven-year old daughter Ellie. Kevyn appreciates an entrepreneurial lifestyle that allows him to work from home – both as an author to his "Easy Etiquette" series and as a consultant to the hospitality industry “writing manuals, procedures and other rather staid stuff...no room for humour or poetic license..” His life also awards him the opportunity to be a stay-at-home dad to Ellie and it is for this that he feels the most fortunate.

Once a very active sportsman (rugby, tennis, squash, and golf), Kevyn spends his free time reading, writing, traveling as much as possible, and socializing down in the Margaret River wine region (Western Australia), drinking red wine or ice cold beer with good friends Garry and JC and their mob of friendly kangaroos.

In spite of Kevyn’s self-described propensity for being “an annoying bastard with too much to say too often”, it is his entrepreneurial view of life, his inquisitive nature about how things work, and his curiosity about people, cultures, and lifestyles that make him a travel author to be reckoned with in the very near future.

Kevyn Townley’s book "Easy Etiquette in China – A Traveler’s Guide to (Surviving) Enjoying China" is now available for download in every format. Keep watching for upcoming releases in the "Easy Etiquette" travel series.
