One angsty and one laid back protagonist with all the baggage that differences in class, wealth, education and race can bring, yet the attraction between them is clear and joyful.
I love the Englishness of Josephine Myles books. It is comforting not, for once, to have to try to guess the significance of bits of other cultures. Yet the stories about life on the British inland waterways are informative too. It's a small world but one about which it is difficult to find out. Jo's books give some insight in a very entertaining way.
