Elisabeth Hayes

Elisabeth Hayes: born in the small southwest Kansas town of Liberal, KS. Elisabeth has always had an aptitude for creative writing, writing poetry and prose since childhood. Blue collar throughout, she has worked primarily in construction and sales and enjoys reading, cooking, movies, video games, and spending time with her son and daughter. A pop culture carnivore and self proclaimed nerd, she loves including as many pop culture references as possible in her work as well as pairing and clashing them with the work of her classic favorite authors. Meeting Mezzanotte is her first published work (Book 1 of a series) with four more confirmed projects underway.

Smashwords Interview

What motivated you to become an indie author?
I have always written. But, distribution was tricky. I have a day job and would find myself coming up with more and more ideas but spending all of my free time agonizing over getting published. One day I investigated independent publishing and realized that it would put my work out there and free up my time to get back to creating. So, I took the plunge. I designed my first book cover and uploaded my first work. The creativity has been flowing since and I have not regretted it.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My favorite thing about writing used to be bringing the story together in just the way that I wanted. I would craft the outline and get the scene to unfold with the perfect undertone. Creation is so exhilarating! But now, when someone reads my story and understands what I was trying to do it is such a rush. I had someone that read my first book tell me, "You made a reference to the van from the A-team and I laughed so hard there were tears." No one, not my editors, or my beta readers had noticed that in the story. I do love that a fan did.
