Finally! A poet in English not bogged down by Oxbridge stodge, arthouse gibberish, weak laddish political sloganeering or faux-Beat macho posturing. This combines savage and very funny attacks on both likely and unlikely targets and a real sensitivity and depth of philosophy. It's like someone took Rumi out for a drink in a bar that happened to be full of a real bunch of tosspots that needed taking down a peg or two, but that also had a massive picture window out on to the most beautiful, psychedelic and surreal landscape possible. Allied with a massive dose of self-knowledge and self irony, this collection puts 99% or so of contemporary poets, and indeed other artists, to shame. I want more!
