Erika Renee Land was born on August 9th 1983. She is a native of Norfolk, Virginia. Upon graduating from high school (Granby High School 2002), Erika enlisted in the United States Army, where she served for six and a half years as a Pharmacy Technician, with a one year deployment to Mosul, Iraq, from 2005 thru 2006, to assist with Operation Iraqi Freedom war efforts.
Mosul, Iraq changed Erika’s perspective on life, and prompted her to volunteer countless hours with various human service organizations. Erika’s philosophy is, “It’s not going to hurt me to help, so why not.” In February 2009, Erika’s military career ended and she relocated to Athens, Georgia to attend the University of Georgia (UGA). Her initial plan was to attend pharmacy school, however, along the way she discovered a hidden passion for creative writing and literature. Thus, she changed her scholastic major to English and embarked on a writing career.
During her academic transition, Erika found that writing was more than a passion, it also served as a therapeutic tool which helped her cope with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder that stemmed from her time spent in Iraq during the war. Erika spends most of her time in her apartment or venturing off to peaceful forests, where wildlife exists to write.
