I help people overcome the psychological barriers that prevent them achieving the life they want.
I am particularly interested in how people use thought processes to create all sorts of negative consequences for themselves. What you think makes you who you are, so it stands to reason that if you fix your thinking you can achieve a better outcome and obtain your life goals.
I am a husband and father to three beautiful girls. I live in New Zealand and was born in South Africa. I have studied, Counselling and Psychology and have achieved formal qualifications in both. i am currently completing my Phd in psychology at the University of Otago, Dunedin.
How do you approach cover design?
I like color and a good picture that tells me a little about the book, author or content. The title should also grab my attention and have some personal appeal. Most people approach a new book with the question of "whats in it for me?" They want to know what benefit they are going to gain by reading the material. The cover should speak to that. I try to incorporate those ideas when I design the cover.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
1.) The Bible - I have read the Bible regularly for most of my life and it has probably had the most impact over me, more than any other book. 2.) Psychology: Australia and New Zealand Edition. This was one of the text books I studied for my undergrad psychology degree. It really opened my eyes to the many interesting ideas uncovered by modern psychological research. 3.) How to win friends and influence people by Dale Carnegie - one of the first self help books I ever read and one which was influential in my own journey regarding influencing people. 4.) Dr Seuss Sleep Book - the first Dr Seuss book I read, but not the last. I picked it up one day and started reading it to my daughter. I couldn't put it down, the rhyme and non-words really captured my attention and I thoroughly enjoyed it. 5.) Bounce - one of the latest books I read. I really enjoyed this book as it emphasizes the importance of practice and less reliance on talent to reach the top of your field.
