Smashwords Interview

When did you first start writing?
I have been writing erotic stories from an inappropriately young age. Really, though, I began considering myself a writer during college when I started sharing my first short erotica with other writers.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing is such a passion for me that it borders on addiction at times. I have to remind myself that I have a "real" job, and can't actually devote hours of every day to writing erotica! The greatest joy of it, for me, is to watch a story unfold, and to be surprised by the twists and turns my imagination can take when I least expect it. Every story is a discovery.

Smashwords book reviews by Fionna Guillaume

  • Claimed (The Dalgrœn Brood: Torain) on Sep. 06, 2015

This was a fun and sexy little romp in the midst of a Viking invasion! I enjoyed how the author told the story from both partners' points of view, and gave just enough background to make their fast-paced romance believable. There were a few editing mishaps that I found jarring, but not enough to interrupt the flow of the story. And of course you can't beat the price!
  • The Girl with Green Stockings: A Shop Girl’s Sex Education on Sep. 07, 2015

A fun little story, with great erotic build-up. And what woman doesn't love the sexy shoe theme? Makes me wish I'd gone to community college!
  • The Agent in Training on Sep. 08, 2015

I loved this! Fantastic futuristic concept, with great setting built around. There was a bit more dialogue than I'm used to in erotic scenes, but it worked well here. Plus I found the breeding theme totally sexy. Definitely plan to see what Agent Derek gets up to next!
  • Running on Empty: A Casual Encounters Short Story on Sep. 10, 2015

Long, tall Texan saves the hour - and makes quite a night of it, too! Loved the imagery, and also the time taken to develop the main character's backstory, and her reaction to the hero. I think every woman has secretly had this fantasy before, to be rescued by a knight in shining armor who is just chivalrous enough... Very enjoyable read and highly recommended!
  • The Modest and the Bold on Sep. 12, 2015

A delightful little story that starts out hot, and finishes firmly in the realm of romance. The author writes with a true sense of the historical time and place, giving little details of daily life that make it all seem real. The language is quite old-fashioned, which was off-putting at times, but appropriate to the medieval setting. All in all a nice read, with plenty of imagery.
  • The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty on Sep. 13, 2015

Nonstop erotic action! Page after page of sexual debasements of every kind! If you love BSDM, this is definitely for you. If you don't, you'll probably still find something to appreciate. The author created an interesting retelling of this old fairy tale, with plenty of twists (some of them literal!). I did get a little tired of some repetitive word use - if you read two pages, you'll know the word I mean - but otherwise I found it well written and well edited. There is plenty of bang for your buck here!
  • The Bull and the Pearl—Mistresses: Book I on Sep. 18, 2015

A well crafted story, full of Regency-era details. I enjoyed the wonderful descriptions of the environment, and all the details of the fabulous clothes and parties of the season. A delightful blooming romance, too, and lots of erotic scenes to spice it up. Certainly a worthwhile read: great erotic historical fiction!
  • The Weak and The Damned on Oct. 01, 2015

Amazing scenario with riveting characters in a not-so-distant dystopian world. I found the main character, a hardened military captain, absolutely fascinating. You detest him for the choices he makes, his cruelty and violence. And yet, you can't help but admire him for the tiny piece of civilization - of a sort - that he has carved out of disaster. I have to say, the pacing of this book it tight, it has elements of horror and sexiness, and the mysterious woman's appearance leads to a twist I did not see coming. Short and well-plotted, this is definitely worth a read. My rating would have been higher but for some small spelling and grammar errors that got in the way of my fully enjoying it. Still, a fast, intense, and worthwhile story. The characters stuck with me a long time.
  • Skullforge: The Destined One (Chapter 1) on Oct. 17, 2015

An intriguing introduction to this richly-imagined fantasy world. Desi is a strong female character who makes you curious to see what comes next.
  • The Answerer: A Modern Tale Of The Tuatha De Dannan on Oct. 22, 2015

An intriguing tale spanning three momentous moments in Irish history! Great re-imagining of Tir na Nog and the ways of the fair folk. I got a distinctly Irish flavor from this, too, which was lovely. The characters were sketched nicely, making me curious as to what adventures are coming next for them...and the mysterious sword. Great short read!
  • The Agent on Oct. 26, 2015

I absolutely loved this concept - it's sexy, thoughtful, and totally believable in a post-apocalyptic society. The bureaucratic management of the Agency (an organization dedicated to repopulating the Earth, but also to paperwork and checklists!) is a delightful nod to realism. Here's the deal: concept was great, story was strong, but I wished I came to know (and like) the characters better. Derek lacked depth for me, as well as the many women he encounters. I wanted more of his inner thoughts and feelings, especially with the possibility of a blooming romance. Also I found the writing quality somewhat bland. Even detailed descriptions of sex weren't quite as hot as I would like - precisely because they're missing that emotional quality I look for in really good erotica. That said, if you're into breeding fantasies this book has it all! Tons of women getting knocked up in pretty much any way you can imagine, giving rein to all sorts of taboo sexual fantasies. Derek manfully fulfills them all - off the clock, so to speak. In terms of bang for your buck, I promise you will get it here!
  • Ota Discovers Fire on Oct. 28, 2015

This is everything you want in an erotic fantasy novel. Richly developed characters, a believable world populated by diverse cultures, a touch of magic, and - of course - sex. Ota discovers far more than fire here, and so will you!
  • You Want To Be An Online Freelancer... Now What? on Nov. 21, 2015

If you are considering a career in online freelancing, this book is a must-read. Informative, concise, with an engaging, familiar voice, “So You Want to be An Online Freelancer” tells you everything you need to get started in the business. My favorite thing is that it doesn’t sugarcoat reality. Freelancing is hard work, and you can only be successful if you are willing to learn, put in the hours, sell your skills, manage your time independently, and do your best work every time. If that sounds like you, you might just be successful as an online freelancer. Eeva Lancaster writes from experience. She shares her personal story, the benefits – and risks – of leaving your day job for online freelancing, and plenty of advice. In this book you will learn about how to find clients and market your skills. Also, steps to take and suggestions for newbies just getting started. Most of all, you will learn from Ms. Lancaster’s vast freelancing experience, which she shares openly This book is for anyone who has ever dreamed of making their own schedule and working independently online. Before you do anything else, buy it!
  • Barebacking the Brat on Nov. 23, 2015

I don't usually go for stepdaddy/barely-legal stories, but this one really did it for me! I can't say how impressed I was with the story pacing, the way the characters are built in such a short time, the dialogue, the editing, and - of course - the erotic tension. The voice is what makes the story stand out. Reading it, you can totally feel - and understand, and be part of - the 18-year-old, vaguely stuck-up and very naughty character. Superfun!
  • Sold To Strangers on Nov. 24, 2015

Once again great first person voice, building a believable character in this super-erotic short story. Not as good (in my opinion) as Barebacking The Brat, but solid nonetheless. If you're in the mood for a mostly-innocent girl and some rough, hard, multiple-partner erotica, then this is worth a read.
  • Ravaged Moon on Dec. 12, 2015

This story is many things at once: a sensitive portrayal of Viking culture, a tension-filled romance, and a paranormal werewolf mystery. Somehow it manages to do all those pieces well, bringing it all together, yet keeping me guessing until the end. I especially liked the way Vikings were treated. They were complex people, blood-thirsty raiders, slavers, and thieves, but also a community. It was nicely done. And the romance was deliciously hot, with plenty of erotic detail. I also appreciated the religious history - great way to bring it all together, and make us think. The writing style was a bit mushy, with multiple characters' perspectives popping up throughout a single page, but once you get used to that it's easy to roll with. As I got further in and figured out who all the characters were, it only helped to deepen the story. This was definitely a worthwhile read!
  • Heir of the Blood King on Jan. 20, 2016

This story took me straight back to my old high school D&D days. It felt to me like a backstory to match three friends' interrelated characters. Talia is a strong-willed, stoic girl; Donadeir her old friend with hidden depths; and Adam, the black-haired orphan of uncertain destiny. The characters drive this story, though it is an exciting time in their world, with the Blood King's Guards on the loose and the mysterious heir yet to be found. As an adult reader, I found the writing style somewhat basic and overly detailed; everything is described, instead of implied. However, for a younger audience I think it would be just right. The story appeals to lovers of classic fantasy adventure. I guarantee any fellow D&Ders will feel right at home! And I have to say, it's worth the read if only for the fantastic twist at the end...
  • Bleak - The First Mission on April 24, 2016

Ian Martyn packs an incredible amount of detail into this short story. We meet Bleak, a shapeshifter guided by his Prime Directive: to follow orders, whatever the cost. With the war successfully concluded, however, Bleak finds himself in the situation of being expendable. An excellent introduction to what promises to be a grand futuristic adventure for Bleak.
  • Dimensional Shift: A Free Short Story on May 05, 2016

This short story explores the paradox of multiple universes. What if we can travel between them? An what would happen if our parallel self is still there in another universe? Or - even scarier - what if our parallel self is no longer there... It's a fast, interesting read with plenty of speculative science, parallel universes, and alien invaders. There's also a fascinating question of relationships, whether they are a product of a series of earthly accidents, or whether we are born with a soulmate. For you to explore. I will say that I wanted more. More detail - especially of the romantic kind; more backstory, more imagery. However, it was a solid, satisfying short.
  • The Shadow of Felfire Tower on Oct. 03, 2016

I enjoyed this strong introduction to what promises to be an engaging high fantasy series. The usual D&D-ish characters appear here: the warrior, the priest, the mage, and of course a dark force to be reckoned with. The author has clearly imagined a complex world, as well as thoughtful, intriguing characters. It's very indie in terms of editing and writing style, but the story itself is engaging and fast-paced. I enjoyed it!
  • The Dark Prince's Harem - Dark Elf Bride on Oct. 03, 2016

A super sexy introduction to this dark fantasy world! Excellent character building, with the dark elf slave -- perhaps bride, if she can pass the sexual tests of her new guardian -- and the demonic environment of the Hells, made this a real pleasure to read. A pleasure in all the right ways. At the end, I was left wanting more, because surely a demon like Raja Kumara has tests of an even more erotic variety to try next time. The writing style is fluid and well paced, with nice description. It's smooth to read and easy to enjoy, so you can focus on all the good stuff. (And there's plenty of that!)
  • Sherlock Holmes And The Case Of The Virgin Bride: An Erotic Wife-Watching Novella on Oct. 23, 2016

A most excellent mystery indeed! Deliciously written in that old-fashioned, Holmes-ey way, with all the fun of classic erotica. Needless to say, the case is solved much to everyone's satisfaction.
  • Divided We Fall on Feb. 18, 2017

This short story is quite extraordinary. It represents what I think is best about the erotica genre: simmering hot sex, plus a story to sink your teeth into. The author masterfully gives just enough detail to situate you in this dark, raw, dystopian world, leaving room for the characters to tell the real story. If you are offended by racially charged language, don't read this book. But if you can get past it, understanding that it is part of the ugliness inherent in the environment our characters must overcome, then you will find a gem of a story. It's all about human goodness, hope, and trust, in the face of desperation.
