Dawn always found comfort in books as a child and from a young age and could be found reading or writing. Her first attempt at fiction was at 10 years old and was entitled Hippo In The House.
Dawn wrote and illustrated the book about a little girl, who returns from home to find a Hippo in her bath tub and the trouble they get into trying to return the Hippo to the zoo .

This was a turning point as Dawn decided that from that moment on the only thing she wanted to do was write, she also decided that she would never be an illustrator as her drawing skills were somewhat lacking to say the least.

Fast forward a few years after school and Dawn married, had three children and completed a degree in counselling and psychology. She returned to writing in 2005 when she had an overwhelming flood of ideas for several stories and began writing immediately at every opportunity.

Dawn’s first book is the first in a trilogy. Dawn is heavily influenced by YA novels, Sci-fi and fantasy, being a huge fan of the genres.

Dawn currently resides with her husband, two daughters, son and cat Mario in West Yorkshire in the UK.

Smashwords Interview

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up In Bradford a city in West Yorkshire in England. This influenced my writing immensely as the Bronte sisters were born here and grew up nearby in Howarth. Jane Eyre was my favourite book growing up.
When did you first start writing?
I honestly can't remember not writing. I have always done it, it was as natural as breathing to me, I had to do it. I wrote my first completed book at 10 years old and was very pleased with myself. I even illustrated it, I knew right I HAD to be a writer. I wrote bits on and off fro years when my children were little, poetry and idea's on scraps of paper. Then in 2004 I started to write a book called the House on Bland Street. I worked on it for about 6 months and then got stuck One night I had a thought as I was falling asleep of a girl who didn't quite fit in, finally finding a friend and how that would feel and that was it. Regina was born from that one idea.
