Smashwords Interview

What motivated you to become an indie author?
More control over my work, I have 11 conventionally published books, and though I love them, they lack my ability to control the content, to say exactly what I have to say in the way I want to say it; in the way it must be said. To avoid pigeon-holing. To be both the pigeon and the hole. To be many pigeons and to have many holes. And to be other birds as necessary. To be a bouquet. To be many flowers, and sometimes a bee that stings; to have that ability also. As an indie author, I can also be the bbee, pollinating , helping other flowers to grow, but also stinging, if necessary.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Expression! --being able to give back to the world some of what it has given me; The pleasure of notice. Thrills of being alive. I started writing the I was six ears old, just me and the paper. I started writing on the stiff white paper my mother's stockings came wrapped around. She threw away this paper, and I removed it from the trash can in the kitchen. It was the wonder that where she saw uselessness, I saw treasure. And since that moment I continued. The paper begged to become something, and I had the ability to give the paper identities. I loved erasers. Love mechanisms of change. Any world I want. Any world that becomes possible.
