Intrigue, action, romance and more!
Eyes of Light is a first novel by Charissa Stastny about a young woman, Suvi Goldstein, and the people she encounters on her journey from her teens through to her twenties and what a journey it is! Stastny eases the reader into a world not too different from most people's lives, but then as the plot develops, suspense takes over and you can't help but feel like you're in the early stages of a roller-coaster ride. In some parts of Eyes of Light, the drama and action could be likened to a life-death battle from a novel in Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy, but Stastny cleverly shows the other side of life—the goodness and loving nature of one of the major characters—James Hinton, an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Eyes of Light is full of intrigue and the characters are not only well-rounded, they are believable. Some of the settings, for example near a river in Boise, Idaho during early spring or a house guarded by a large reptile in Semillero, are vivid and redolent. There are a few minor distractions as with any first novel where inexperience and imperfection pop up, but you soon get over these matters and can't wait to read the next chapter. Suvi is a memorable character and one readers will love to meet and learn about.
