Gail Cleare

Biography

USA Today Bestselling author Gail Cleare has written for newspapers, magazines, Fortune 50 companies and AOL. Now she writes poetry and fiction on an 18th century farm in Massachusetts with her family and dogs, cats, chickens, black bears, blue herons, rushing streams and wide, windy skies. When she's not writing, Gail is either working in her organic vegetable garden or absorbed in nature photography. She can often be found stalking wild creatures with a 300 mm lens.

Cleare's first novel, "Destined, a Novel of the Tarot" (2011), was a finalist for a Somerset Award, and for the Green Book Festival and New England Book Festival competitions.

"The Taste of Air" (2016), won Reader's Favorite Book Awards for both the book and the audio book. It is a USA Today Bestseller, and an iBooks Bestseller.

Her new book, "Love & Chocolate, a Romance with Recipes," will be released in late 2018.

Smashwords Interview

What are you working on next?
My new book, "Love & Chocolate, a Romance with Recipes," is due out from Red Adept in late 2018. At the moment, I'm writing the sequel to "The Taste of Air," my USA Today Bestseller. This new book is tentatively called "The Scent of Earth," and it's set in Hartland, the same Vermont town as the first book in the series. The book to follow "Destined" is coming along eventually, too. The structural metaphor of the second novel in this magic-realism divination trilogy is based on the I Ching, the Book of Changes. I have my work cut out for me!
Who are your favorite authors?
For women's fiction, I adore Luanne Rice, Susan Wiggs, Kristin Hannah, Sarah Addison Allen, Sarah Jio and Alice Hoffman. I also love a good mystery, especially Laurie King's series about Sherlock Holmes and his wife, Martha Grimes' series starring Richard Jury, PD James, and the wonderful, quirky, small village mysteries (Hamish MacBeth and Agatha Raisin) by MC Beaton. Books about magic always attract me too, like Deborah Harkness' stories, Paula Brackston's, and the work of Sarah Painter.
