R. L. Gemmill

When R. L. Gemmill was 20, he hitchhiked from Virginia to California to visit relatives. Along the way he climbed Handy’s Peak in southern Colorado, had all of his food stolen by ground squirrels in the Grand Canyon, and most importantly, began to read books while snowed in on the campus of Michigan Tech University. He had been writing books since the age of 12, but actually reading books changed everything. Gemmill taught biology and anatomy in Virginia for 32 years and is now retired.
R. L. Gemmill’s favorite quote (which saved him from depression and worse): “If your life bores you, risk it.” James Dickey, author of Deliverance.

  • Alysa of the Fields, Book One in the Tellings of Xunar-kun Series on Aug. 10, 2015

This is a heart-warming, coming-of-age tale of a young woman, Alysa, who is one of the Field Folk, a group of people featured in this book. Her society lives by strict rules and traditions, and has thrived for hundreds of years without encountering enemies. They trade their mostly agricultural goods with the Trailmen, who are hunters and have their own ways of doing things. Alysa has inherited her father’s think-out-of-the-box attitude, which eventually puts her in direct conflict with community leaders. But when a series of unexplainable abductions forces the Folk to defend themselves—something they’ve never had to do—Alysa is the only one with a plan to save them. The story is loaded with rich description and memorable characters. When the trouble starts, you may find yourself unable to put the book down because you care so much about what happens to these people. In my opinion Alysa of the Fields is a strong fantasy story and a very good read!
  • Ben Blackshaw Box Set – The Alpha Missions: Deadrise – Nitro Express – Tap Rack Bang on Dec. 02, 2016

Robert Blake Whitehill is the King of Conspiracy thinking! His second book in The Ben Blackshaw Series continues with Nitro Express, a suspenseful, wild ride that is loaded with fresh, risky conspiracies, gruesome assassinations, and of course, former Navy Seal Ben Blackshaw, who is once again pushed far beyond his nice guy limits. Whitehill seems privy to all sorts of top secret information as this thriller may even outshine Deadrise, Book 1 in the series (and I loved that one!). The author’s solid knowledge of military operations combined with a string of clever twists and reveals will surprise and satisfy the reader all the way to the very end of the book. A great, nonstop read!
