Gregg Schwartzkopf

For someone who has a great marriage, adult children, a new grandchild, and a stable day job, Gregg Schwartzkopf spends a fair amount of time in realms of fantasy. He's been an amateur magician, role play gamer and, yes, a Mets fan (YOU GOTTA BELIEVE). Recently (that is, within the last decade) he decided to try his hand at creating stories in imaginary worlds that other people might like to share.

Smashwords Interview

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
It's an almost mystical process where the story takes on a life of its own. I develop the characters and the outline of a plot, but as I let the characters speak they often tell me things about the story that I'd not realized when I started writing.
Who are your favorite authors?
I originally became interested in fantasy through Tolkien and Katherine Kurtz's Deryini series. I was a fan of Robert Asprin's Myth books and Adams' Hitchhiker series. My current favorite is Lisa Shearin.

There are worse things than being exiled to suburban Long Island, and Caswel Esmar is experiencing most of them. Just because he violated rules about unauthorized contact with humans, the Elder Council stripped him of knighthood, deprived him of magic and transformed him into a human teenage girl. If only that were the sum total of his problems.

  • Magpie & Jynx (The Twin Cities Series) on July 04, 2014

It has two, strong female protagonists, lots of action and interesting variations on familiar fantasy creatures. My only quibble is the abrupt shifting from first person narration to third person and back again.
  • Fallen Grace on Jan. 02, 2019

I picked this up on a whim and it fooled me into thinking it was boilerplate Action Hero Princess with Complex Love Triangle. Then the first twist hit and it veered off in a very different direction. The characters are fleshed out and the plot moves swiftly with a number of surprises. The narrative gets a little repetitive from time to time, but it never bogs down. I suspect I'll be investing in more of the series.
