Ryan Underhill

Mississaugan writer Ryan Harron comes from a long line of storytellers. None of them have been “professionals”in any way, of course, but their ability to blend personal anecdote, history, and generous helpings of pure fantasy created a love of story that has stayed with him to this day. Regardless of whether he's writing songs, short stories, or novels, Ryan's writing always tries to maintain a sense of the fantastic, to help us deal with our mundane world.

Zombies, post-apocalyptic Japan, and a dose of BDSM - Media Whores a fast, fun story that keeps you on your toes. Imagine a cross between Roger Corman and William Gibson, and you've got the general ballpark that Made in DNA plays in. What I really liked about Media Whores, though, was the format - the story was originally serialized on microblogging site Twitter, which means it's comprised of super-short 140 character paragraphs that turn into these little nuggets of beat poetry when strung together. New media's all about telling stories in new ways, and Media Whores is a great experiment in that.
