It was love at first sight for Vance and Portia, Pity Vance couldn't do anything. A Promise is a promise though, and his honor shows from the very beginning.
Two years later, Portia finds out a lot about herself, not only is she a witch, but the guy she's secretly been crushing on, likes her back and is a warlock. Ah the joys of teen love.
This was everything that I expected of a teen love story. The angst of being so young and desperately in love was mixed with the certainty that they knew what they wanted for their future in such a way that you couldn't help but be affected by the innocent but intense young love.
Add to that wonderful mix, Vance becoming a man and learning his whole world had been turned upside down while he was running from the danger dogging his trail, and Portia finding her place with magic and with him. You could easily see them fall victim as so many young people do to reckless abandon, but their strong will to do the right thing prevails.
A surprise ending has left me hungry for more. I can't wait for book two.
