Mary Uihlein was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Growing up, she spent much of her time outdoors, either at her family home in northern Wisconsin or on various family vacations to Scotland and the western United States. During these times, she became very aware of the structure of the natural world and loved learning about the flora and fauna of the different regions. Mary is inspired by all elements of nature and brings them to her work. Her illustrations, detailed and whimsical, often contain elements of structural design, which was her focus in college.
In the past, she served on several conservation and natural history boards, including Riveredge Nature Center, Tirimbina Rainforest Center, and Friends of the Milwaukee Public Museum. Mary is married and spends her time between Sarasota, Florida and Land O’Lakes, Wisconsin.
