David Reed is a musician, composer and teacher of musical improvisation for all instruments. He is the author of the book "Improvise for Real" and the founder of www.ImproviseForReal.com, the world's first online music school dedicated exclusively to the art of musical improvisation. He is also the creator of the "IFR Jam Tracks" series of musical accompaniments for beginning improvisers.
The Improvise for Real teaching method empowers students to discover harmony for themselves by experiencing it directly. Instead of memorizing rules and formulas, students of Improvise for Real learn to enter and explore the world of harmony on their own, and enjoy the thrill of creating their own original music with all of the beautiful sounds that they discover.
The method is the result of more than 30 years of David's investigating both the complexities of modern harmony and the magic of human creativity. He has played and studied music in New York, Los Angeles, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Senegal, Guinea Bissau and Barcelona, Spain. Some notable concerts he has given include performances for the United Nations (Guinea Bissau, 2006), the Council of Europe (Andorra, 2007), the International Youth Jazz Festival (Italy, 2006) and the festival Jazz.Cat (Barcelona, 2008).
