Smashwords Interview

What's the story behind your latest book?
There are a lot of stories behind my latest book, as it is sort of an anthology, or at least a collection of short stories. 'Shadows', for example, was based on a nightmare that I had when I was younger. Most of them were just ideas that came to me as I wrote them. 'Echoes' and 'The Voice Amongst The Winds' were two stories that I knew going into them how I intended for them to start and end. It was all a matter of fleshing out the middle.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing for homework assignments mostly. Few of them were ever any good, until I wrote Shadows for a freshman literature assignment in High School. When I wrote it, I was surprised to see that I had actually done an okay job on it. It isn't my best short story now, but it was certainly the first 'good' story that I wrote. I didn't write much more until about halfway through my Sophomore year, when I wrote 'The Bog'. Writing that story reminded me that I actually enjoyed writing, so I kept at it- a short story here, a poem there. Eventually, I decided to publish my short stories for others to read, since almost everyone who'd read it had enjoyed it. That was when I found SmashWords, and I was immediately enamored with the idea.
