Smashwords Interview

Why do you write and why did you choose the Fantasy genre?
I can't paint, or draw. When I was younger, I had aspirations of being a comic book and video game artist. That changed in 4th grade, when I realized I was a horrible artist. I was pretty sad, till I found "Jeremy Thatcher Dragon Hatcher". That book was the one that got me into Fantasy, and I decided I wanted to be a writer. I'd always had been coming up with stories, but I was never serious about it. So instead of drawing with pencils, I draw with my words...As for why I write Fantasy, I had always liked the quest genre, and people finding the strength within themselves to overcome Evil. And in my own life, I'd always been a fighter. I'd been in the hospital so many times, and conquered many a nasty beast before when I've felt the crappiest. Thus, the Fantasy genre is perfect for me.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I didn't want to wait on publishers. Too many authors are left waiting for months, sometimes years to get their books to be accepted by a big publishing house. (Heck, it may even take that long to get an Agent to send your books to publishers!) Why go the traditional route, when you can do it faster by hiring people and/or doing some things by yourself? More and more people will go the indie route, and the publishers will be the authors.
