James McGregor

Welcome to my page.

I am James McGregor.

I write you and you can read. Perfect Match.

When I was thirteen I started to listen and become interested in music. My friend started to learn the keyboard and our musical journey began. It was here that I started to write lyrics, incredibly cheesy and tacky ones, to the factory setting sounds of the keyboard. This developed into actual songwriting once I began to learn the guitar and we formed a band. Years went by and the music faded away, but the words stayed. The lyrics that I wrote turned into poems, and poems turned into short stories. And soon, the short stories will turn into full-length novels, however, I am not there just yet. I am from Lincoln, England, but at the minute I am living in Tallinn, Estonia. I hope you enjoy my work.

Most things, hopefully all things, I write or make, from now and forever, will be free to read, listen, and watch. If you wish to donate something every month for all of this, then you are more than welcome to. However, if you want to just have it all for free, then that is also not a problem.
The choice is totally up to you.

Also, feel free to message me with love and praise, and if you must, complaints and death threats.

Smashwords Interview

What is your writing process?
Usually the writing process for me begins with one simple idea, a line normally, that I write down and forget about. After a few weeks or months, depending on what I am working on, doing, at the time, I will come back to my little book of ideas and I will choose one that feels right in that moment. Once I have my idea I think about it over and over again until the story has been lived over and over again in my mind. It is at this point that I want nothing to do with the story and need to get to out of my mind by writing it down. Once it is down and out, I forget about it for the next week or so, start a new one, and eventually begin to edit and edit, and even though I have tried my best to edit all the mistakes, I still seem to find one or two lurking in there, which is incredibly annoying since you can't always keep editing the same stories, sometimes you do have to move on. Anyway, this is usually the process, it is painful and long. And this is how I wrote the short stories here on Smashwords.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
In all honesty, reading was forced upon me by my parents, and as you can imagine, I hated reading and vowed to never read anything. This lasted for many years, up until university. It was here that I picked up a book about Jimi Hendrix and read it from cover to cover. When I began to read, and during my time reading the book, I could shut myself off from the rest of the house and just melt away in my, 'chill out corner.' It was here that I began to read again, and learnt about a whole other genre of music. When I went travelling around South America I furthered this, since, when you are on a bus for an unholy amount of hours with nothing to do, reading was, and is, a nice way to pass the time. This enjoyment of reading has carried on and I still enjoy reading and forgetting about everything that is around me, which is usually bliss considering where we are in the world and what on Earth is happening.
