Jamila Johnson


Jamila Johnson is a retired teacher, now a private tutor specializing in the national curriculum for maths and English and who enjoys developing children’s literacy skills. She has always wanted to write, particularly for children and has now produced her first book: The Zoologist’s Son – The Climber.

Her early years were spent in India, in Hyderabad Deccan and she came to England with her English Mother and Indian Father in the time of mass expulsion from India in the years after India declared independence.

Following in her father’s footsteps she graduated and attended Goldsmiths’ College, London University gaining an academic degree which equipped her to teach primary school children. She was not the only one in teaching in the family for her father was a lecturer of physics and her sister was a domestic science teacher. Her long association with children has spawned a wide knowledge of good books for children. She is currently running her own private tutorial school but has wide interests ranging from the arts, needlework, painting and drawing and country walking. She has a degree in German Literature and Language at Birkbeck College London University and enjoys German conversation. Jamila was raised in the south-east London suburb of Sydenham and Forest Hill, many attributes of which are featured in her book.
