Hello! My name is Janelle Jeffrey. Originally from the beautiful Okanagan, with a ten year stint in Calgary, Alberta, I now live in scenic Squamish, British Columbia.
When I was eight, my mother asked me what I wanted to be when I grow up. I did not say a princess. I wrote my first story around that time, which was, ironically, also a Christmas story (although I like to think my story-telling skills have improved exponentially over the years!)
Fresh out of high school, I attended (which was at the time) Okanagan University College. The first course I signed up for was Intro to Creative Writing. From there I was hooked, and went on to take as many creative writing courses as I possibly could. My passion for writing landed me at the University of Calgary, where I received my MA in English with a specialization in creative writing. My time in Calgary was invaluable, as I had the opportunity to work with some amazing writers, and to learn from some of the best creative writing professors in Canada.
Over the years I have, of course, written dozens of stories. Winter and the Secret of Santa is my first children’s book, and it is in this book that I feel I have found my niche. I cannot express enough how much I enjoyed writing this story. And of course, the process of bringing it to life has been both rewarding and exciting.
But I couldn’t have done it alone. Because when I am not busy creating strange and magical things, I am busy being Mom to my three children. (Or maybe it’s the other way around!) In any case, if it takes a village to raise child, then it takes a fully incorporated town to publish a book.
There are a few people I need to thank.
Bob Rymarchuk at UBR Services in Winfield, BC. Thank you for all your hard work with the print version of this book. I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome
Judy Ballard at www.customebookcovers.com for your beautiful work on the cover design. You really brought my vision for the cover to life!
My ‘Spread the Word Team’, who are out there right now flogging my book and reaching an audience that I couldn’t possibly reach on my own. Your promo and support is truly invaluable. You know who you are, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart!
My parents, Pat and Lawrence, for not only providing me with constant encouragement throughout the years, but for also instilling in me the courage to try. I thank you to the North Pole and back again.
My husband, Matt, who insisted that I stop talking about it, and just write it. If not for your support, I doubt I would have even started this book in the first place. Sometimes there are no words, Matty-cakes. But there is always love.
And of course, my three children. My son, Brighton, who is just beginning to figure out what this ‘Santa’ thing is all about. My baby girl, Brinsley, who has yet to discover the magic and mystery of this man in red. And my oldest, December, the inspiration for this book, and the catalyst for all things strange and magical in my life.
And lastly, for all the mothers and fathers would want their sons and daughters to hang on to the magic of Santa for just one more year. I’m right there with you. And this book is for you.
