Jacqueline Church Simonds

Publisher info

I am an author and publishing consultant living in Reno, Nevada. I love (in no particular order) books, writing, reading, beagles, coffee, good bourbon, publishing, and politics.

My latest book is a novella, ANYA: MISTRESS OF DRUNEMETON, Book Four of the BOOK OF ANYA series. This follows the March release of the first novella of the series ANYA: THE HEALER OF CAMELOT (Book 1), the June release of ANYA: KING ARTHUR'S MISTRESS (Book 2), and the September release of ANYA: MERLIN'S WOMAN (Book 3).

I have always loved the King Arthur saga and am a big fan of such books as THE ONCE AND FUTURE KING, THE MISTS OF AVALON, and the Mary Stewart Merlin books. THE BOOK OF ANYA is a mouse-eye view of the doings of Camelot, King Arthur, Merlin and Morgaine. You can follow more about the novellas, and a book set in the future, by visiting http://jcsimonds.com.

My previous novel is CAPTAIN MARY, BUCCANEER, a historical adventure novel loosely based on the real pirate women Ann Bonney and Mary Reade. Because who doesn't love pirates, especially women pirates?

Keep an eye peeled! My contemporary Arthurian fantasy THE MIDSUMMER WIFE about what happens to the descendants of Anya, Arthur, and Merlin, debuts is 2018 from Vagabondage Press.

Smashwords Interview

What prompted you to write this book?
I've always loved King Arthur stories. I adored Disney's "The Sword and the Stone" as a kid, THE ONCE AND FUTURE KING, Mary Stewart's Merlin series, and of course, THE MISTS OF AVALON -- which the Anya books are sort of an offshoot from.

Anya's story had been rattling around in my head for some years, before I wrote it down.
This deals with a Goddess. Is it anti-Christian?
No. However, those who have a very literal interpretation of the Bible will probably not like this book.

This "deity" is very much a part of Anya's life, intervening in specific moments.

At the time this book is set, Christianity is on the rise, and Celtic worship is on the wain. Writers love conflict, and I'm no different in this.
