Smashwords Interview

Describe your desk
Which one? I have a few that I work at. Most of the drafting and revision is done in a fluffy chair in my living room on a laptop. The computer I use for formatting is in my office, which is mostly clean, but swamped with books of one sort or another. It's a used piece of office furniture my wife got from a former employer. It braces things against gravity quite well.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born in Ohio, but my family moved to Kentucky when I was three years old, so I'm a transplanted buckeye. I grew up mainly in rural northern Kentucky. I saw lots of trees on a daily basis. Being far removed from people and the bustle of urban life was good for my imagination overall, however, and since we always had books in the house because my mother and I are both avid readers, I had plenty of time to digest a lot of words. Because of that, I was exposed to several different styles and genres of fiction, all of which gave me plenty of examples to follow.
