I was born into a ranching family in the state of Idaho and immigrated to Canada as a young man to work on ranches in British Columbia. When it proved impossible to save up for a place of my own on a monthly wage of $250 (plus all the beef I could eat), I was led by imagination and naiveté through a series of alternative life styles. I owned and operated an artificial insemination business in Northern Alberta (cattle, not humans), rode herd for the Alberta government on a Provincial grazing reserve, failed to acquire rodeo-level skills in calf roping, and finally came to terms with my true nature and returned to school. I was a product development manager in high technology for 15 years. When that bubble burst I co-founded a public opinion research firm with my life partner Jeannette Bellerose, which we continue to operate. We live in Ottawa, and are the proud parents of two grown sons. Jeannette has designated me the official wrangler of our two cats, Wolfe and Montcalm.

Dode, a cowgirl, provided sound advice and warm friendship for Frank in the loneliest days of his childhood. As an adult, far away now from ranching, he finds her spirit alive in the women he is drawn to, including his wife, a colleague, and his soon to be daughter-in-law. All of them are cowgirls, as Frank has learned to use the word.
