Smashwords Interview

When did you first start writing?
I wrote my first story when I was about ten. It was a horror tale about an evil seaweed creature attacking a coastal village. The final body count was about a hundred, if I recall correctly. It was a gruesome splatterpunk story written long before I had heard that term. I spent all summer working on it, writing in a narrow-lined book. It felt like an epic, though it probably only had 20,000 words in total. It was fun writing it. I never showed that story to anyone, but I enjoyed writing it for my own entertainment.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book - Journal of the Living - started off as an experiment on Wordpress - a zombie apocalypse story written as a blog.

Journal of the Living is a first-person narrative, told from the point of view of Ben Smith. He was a banker, but he’s all right now. He was a selfish man before the zombie apocalypse, but it forced him to change for the better. He wants to be a hero, protecting his new family, consisting of a group of survivors Ben met in the post-apocalyptic wasteland outside of London. Ben uses a laptop to write down his story as it is happening, when he’s not battling for his life against zombies, gangs and paramilitary extremists.

It’s a stand-alone title, not meant to be part of a series.
