Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born and raised at Oporto city, in Portugal. I spent a large part of my childhood at my two grandmothers’ houses, where I used to go after school or during the holidays. Despite being an only child for 10 years, I always lived surrounded by cousins. Our playtime, weather permitting, was spent outdoors, at the backyard of these two houses. Nature was always present during my childhood. Maybe that's why the Children’s stories I write are mostly influenced by nature and have always some special appearances from plants, animals and magic.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing when I was about 14 years old. Reading and writing have always been two major joys in my life. With my daughters’ birth, I began to imagine short stories for them. I have so much pleasure in writing them down that I’ve started carrying a story in mind wherever I go. And the fact that they like to hear them (they’re still at the age of enjoying everything mom does!), is a strong incentive for me to keep writing.
Granny Matilda’s house is a magical place and full of surprises – Maria and Mia already know that. From imaginary birds to real dragons, the sisters had seen them all. But nothing could prepare them for what they were about to discover at their granny’s backyard.
