Joe Garner Turman

Biography

Joe's hometown is Noonday, Texas. He attended Tyler public schools where he competed in football, track and boxing. When he turned 18, he joined the USMC and served a tour of duty. After a salvation experience, at a Billy Graham Crusade in NYC, he attended Carson-Newman University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in preparation for overseas service as a missionary. He served in Vietnam as an evangelist/church planter during the Vietnam War. After Vietnam, Joe worked among the churches in the Philippines, Indonesia, Zambia, Africa and Slovakia. He is retired in Alabaster, Alabama with his wife Gloria. Since retirement he has authored seven books. He and Gloria have four children and eight grandchildren.

What is your writing process?
I try to write two hours a day.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
When I was in the third grade, I read the story of Plenty Coups, a Crow Indian chief. His story so impacted me that I remember it until today.
