Many atheists have found their way from the shadows of religious thought by simply doing one thing: Reading the Bible. While sitting in church, we've listened to our preacher "he-haw" through the beautiful, fuzzy and warm-feeling verses without ever mentioning the carnage and lunacy that resides in what many call the "good book." We've attended Sunday School sessions, painted and drew wonderful pictures of Jesus, discussed his teachings in confirmation classes, and read from our daily devotional. We've been taught to believe that God and Jesus are the epitome of love and kindness. When we've dabbled in things such as these, we come to understand the Bible and the teachings of Jesus are good things.
That is the furthest from the truth.

This book conveniently and colorfully illustrates the horrors of Christian teachings by showing its readers the barbaric, sinister and controlling nature of the Bible. Not only is it done in an entertaining and thought-provoking manner, from cover to cover this book is teeming with illustrations depicting the gravity of certain passages. It gives the readers and image of what these events would have actually looked like. It is one thing to read the Genesis flood narrative, but it is another thing to actually see how it could have looked if one were present. Joey Lee Kirkman is an award-winning activist with the ability to reach his audience in a personable, yet biting fashion. He was present during the Newton County Protest in 2012 in response to the lobby of religious fundamentalists which resulted in his antics being seen on CNN, Anderson Coop 360, Headline News, and more. He was the founder, executive producer, and co-host of the podcast Bully the Bullies Show, which aired in 2012. In 2013, Kirkman earned a "Certificate of Acknowledgment of Leadership and Congratulations" from the North Carolina House of Representatives for his activism during the 2012 marriage equality debates. 2014 brought the release of Bedtime Bible Stories - Explicit! with his co-author, JD Shapiro. Today, Joey Lee Kirkman is the CFO of Secular Media Group, Owner of JLK Tax Service, and 2015 will see the release of his second book, PR POPE.
JD Shapiro is a man of many trades. He's been an actor, director, filmmaker, writer and stand-up comedian. As a screenwriter, JD has worked on many films, most notably Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993) and the early draft of Battlefield: Earth (2000). As an actor, he's worked on films such as Pucked (2006), The Strand (2007), and X-Treme Biography - Santa (2008). He was the recipient of the "Audience Award Best Movie" at the HBO Film Festival for his work on the film We Married Margo (2000). He also collaborated with comic-book icon Stan Lee in creating a new group of fictional superheroes titled "The Guardian Project".
Together, these men deliver something wonderful and well-needed. As atheists, we should be ready and willing to bring information to the table for those questioning their religious faith. A countless number of questioning theists may fall prey to the kind words of their preacher, unknowingly controlled by corrupt puppeteers with inhuman agendas.
