This is a charming study of life in an English village in the post-war years. Through a series of very engaging, humorous short stories we travel along with an adolescent boy as he explores village life. These are the days before mass media and television where children made their own amusements and found joy in simple pleasures. We are given a nostalgic glance into a life-style which, sadly, no longer exists, but, happily, the author has captured the simple culture of a self-supporting village of half a century ago; a world of smallholding farmers and modest businesses, rich in history and tradition, and preserved it for our enjoyment. This book will delight anyone with a background in rural England and a revelation to those who have not been fortunate enough to experience it for themselves.
