A journalist since 1955, mainly in sport, Barry is a native of Nottingham, England, and has lived in Germany (while serving in the RAF Regiment); London, Bermuda and Sydney, Australia.
He lived in Sydney for 17 years and it was there that his novel germinated when, with a colleague, he investigated the killing of a newspaper editor murdered for what she was about to publish on organised crime and corruption.
In time they uncovered the plot behind the killing but because of political corruption were unable to instigate the judicial hearing their allegations demanded.
Eventually their activities provoked death threats and for the safety of their loved ones they both left Sydney. Barry returned to London and resumed his career in golf writing.
His novel, The Girl Who Knew Too Much, is the fictionalised version of the story of the investigation.
