Ellie Jordan, Ghost Trapper by J.L. Bryan was an unexpectedly awesome book! It was an extremely well written ghost hunter mystery that I couldn’t put down. Ellie Jordan is a Ghost Hunter by profession, making a meager living off of trapping ghosts around Savannah, Georgia. She takes a case for a seemingly routine haunting in an old mansion being remodeled for a bed and breakfast, but nothing goes as planned. With a newbie to train, a client’s husband giving her grief about how stupid this all seems, and a ghost that isn’t behaving the way it should, after a few attempts Ellie thinks she’s finally wrapped things up only to find out she was way wrong. Mysteries abound while you can just imagine the character in a real life ghost hunting show with real life ghosts. Excellent writing and a fast paced story for those who love action, mystery, and a side of spookiness. I highly recommend!

This book was a pleasant surprise. Valerie Dearborn grew up with an emotionally distant father and an acquired foster brother of sorts, Jack, after Valerie’s mother and Jack’s parents were killed by vampires. Val’s father and Jack grow into avid vampire hunters, always trying to force Val into learning their ways while Val secretly lusted after Jack. Val just wants a normal life, though, so when she gets the chance, she leaves town for college and doesn’t look back. Unknown to Val, she’s half empath, which is like candy to a vampire. And she’s the last one on earth as far as the Vampire King, Lucas, knows. After learning about her from the vampire that killed her mother as a child, Lucas has been waiting in the shadows for years, protecting Val, her father, and Jack, while Val grows up and her family continues their quest to kill vampires. Lucas, the Vampire King, is an interesting character. His motives for allowing vampires to be killed, and even secretly encouraging it, are for a noble cause, and sets the story in an interesting world. This was a well paced story that held my interest throughout. I particularly liked the way Val describes Lucas. He has vampire otherness, then can force himself to be more humanlike. The love triangle that forms between Val, Lucas and Jack is complicated, but I never felt frustrated by it so much as hoping Val would just pick one of them and get on with things. Of course, that means her man would need to commit to her, too. Loved this book and have already bought the next one. The world created is so interesting, and the writing style of the author pulled me in so I’m really looking forward to the next in the series.
