I enjoyed reading this story. I felt a genuine connection to Rhys Newton, the 10 year old boy, depicted in the story. I liked that Barnard incorporated the struggles of a single-parent family. As an adult, I could relate to her struggle, while children would be engaged in Rhy's struggles with helping the Darklings. Finally, it was interesting to read a story set in England, written by a Bristish author. I learned a lot of new vocabulary words and differences between the culture in the U.S. and England.
