Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Absolutely, I do. I still have it. It's about five friends who go rafting and find an island of dinosaurs. I wrote it in 6th grade and typed it out on my mom's old school typewriter. Comes with a map
even. I sewed in a seam for binding and everything. Is that too krafty for a 6th grader?
That group of friends are the characters behind the group of friends in my first book, Trespassing. So in a way they have grown up with me.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
All time favorite is Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. I love the ridiculousness of it and that there are lots of hidden things in the text.
Ender's Game is a close second. The tension in the book of what that kid goes through over the years is insanity. Plus who doesn't want a battle room to float around in.
Fahrenheit 541 is amazing too. Ray Bradbury is such a master of language. It's a small book but it has a powerful message.
All tyree of these are number one in my book. I read each of them at least once a year.
